Since Tommaso was a young boy, he has enjoyed all kinds of sports and in particular soccer. He has been playing soccer for 15 years, included several years in the competitive regional championship.
He showed a great passion for all the things that are Italian, including making pasta.
In January of 2014, when preparing for a pasta tour in the United States to teach pasta classes, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Since the beginning of February he has undertaken several treatments at Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna, Hematology Center “L. e A. Seragnoli”.
Doctors treated Tommaso firstly according to the Pediatric Protocol. Later, an experimental treatment with Blinatumomab was followed for Tommaso. Both treatments were unsucessful and leukemia did not go in remission.
The current HAM treatment is still ongoing. In light of the past medical records of Tommaso, doctors urged us to consider the possibility of an innovative but very expensive treatment at Penn Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, pioneered by MD Carl H. June and his medical team.
MD Carl H. June of the Penn Hospital of Philadelphia, has been obtaining fantastic results with this innovative therapy, better known as CART or T-cells that differs from other ordinary therapies. By building genetically engineered T cells, the therapy stimulates the immune system, in particular T-cells in targeting infected cells and cancer.
MD Carl June offered to treat Tommaso with CARTs therapy without charging him any cost. However, costs that the hospital requests are very high and amount to $600.000 US.
In this amount are included hospitalization, exams that Tommaso will need to do, CTs, bone marrow biopsies, blood analysis, eventual chemotherapy.
That is why we are asking for your help.
Even a little donation can help Tommaso in fighting this terrible leukemia and make him playing soccer again. In a such a good way as he did.
Thank you for your generosity,
Marcello, Raffaella, Tommaso, Francesca and Emanuele Tori
